Sphinx Pose

Beginner Body Only Lower Back

A gentle backbend held on the forearms that extends the spine and opens the chest. Often used as a break from sitting or as part of a cool-down.

How to do it

  1. Lie face down with your legs extended and the tops of your feet on the floor.
  2. Prop yourself up on your forearms with your elbows under your shoulders, forearms parallel and palms down.
  3. Press gently through your forearms, let your chest open forward, and keep your shoulders away from your ears.
  4. Hold for the target time, breathing slowly, then lower back down. Ease off if you feel pinching in your lower back.
